About time...

I decided to write about my work today.
I always kept my life away from my work...you'll find me more on facebook than on linkedin. Its my kind of rebellion...refusing to peddle my wares where not required.

But today I have decided to start writing about my work. Because what I really really do is not propaganda for capitalists or agendas of eyewash... What I really do is what i love best...observe people and plants and animals and machines and wonder about how it all comes together...or when and why it all falls apart.

And why should I keep myself from writing about this?

Everyday living as one of the surging mass in India life is interesting...exciting even. don't let it dull your senses. there is a lot of gossip and scandal and hopes and dreams out there. Like today I overheard a conversation in the train between some twentysomething office goers...

One of them was clearly the leader, commanding admiration and alliance from others...everyone sought her attention...whosoever she spoke to immediately bloomed into smiles. However there was one quite girl in their gang who was almost missed in this holding of court...that is, till the pack leader acknowledged her and said (afer a monologue on makeup and clothes)...

Female 1 - "aapki nailpolish bohut acchi hai"
Female 2 - "actually mere husband leke aaye the...har baar woh hi choose karte hain aur khareedte hain"

In that moment I was witness to a complete reversal of power...she created a longing beyond explanation in all the females around...she was instantly elevated, an object of envy and admiration. she was a nobody till she made that statement.

As we pulled out of grant road station I wondered if this is what lies in the core of women and kitchen politics?

Another conversation:
Female 1 - mere sister ne kya mast kurta liya...(shows a pic on her blackberry)arre ise toh dress ki tarah bhi pehen sakte hain bina pajame ke...mast hai na? meine socha kuch three hundred four hundred ka hoga...sirf two hundred ka hai.

What I learnt:
1. Even though you have blackberry and are working, a difference of one hundred still makes a difference in their young urban lives

2. Surprisingly, amongst many, love and demonstration from a man is still a parameter of a woman's worth.
